One must live here in Japan to understand the Japanese way of thinking. I’ve seen this video uploaded to websites promoting Hinduism, etc when in fact, this is just an expression of how the Japanese people are – of being thankful for everything.
As far as water is concerned, everything in creation is alive. It may not be alive to us, but they are all alive and answer to the Creator.

Psalm 148:3-5
Praise Him, sun and moon;
Praise Him, all stars of light!
Praise Him, highest heavens,
And the waters that are above the heavens!
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
For He commanded and they were created.
